UW-Whitewater Student Named International Recipient of Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

Tara Liegel, a UW-Whitewater student from Loganville, WI has been selected to one of six International Recipients of the 2020 Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. The Zonta Club of Janesville had selected Liegel for its local award earlier in the year, and forwarded her application for consideration for additional scholarships offered by Zonta International.

Liegel received the scholarship because of her outstanding academic record at UW-Whitewater in the fields of Accounting and Finance. She has been president of the Epsilon Rho Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi honors society at UW-Whitewater and has demonstrated outstanding leadership, and service to the community as she has pursued her studies leading to a career in public accounting.

The other International Recipients of the scholarship are from the US, Canada, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Italy.

The Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships, first awarded in 1998, are open to women enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a Master’s program in business, leading to a business management career. The program is designed to encourage women to enter careers and to seek leadership positions in business-related fields in their communities and throughout the world. The Jane M. The Zonta Club of Janesville is a club of Zonta International, and has been serving the community since 1960 through activities directed toward combating violence against women, and projects such as the Women With a Vision program that has developed partnerships with other agencies and foundations to provide scholarships and additional support to single mothers who are pursuing a post-secondary education that will empower them to enter careers that provide family sustaining wages. For the past 25 years, the Zonta Club of Janesville has hosted the Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon during the month of March on or near International Women’s Day.

Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.  The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship Program is one of many programs for women and girls sponsored by Zonta International. The Scholarships are funded by voluntary contributions to the Zonta International Foundation.                                                                                                                                 

“Women with a Vision” Scholarship for Spring 2021 Applications Available

  Applications for the Zonta Club of Janesville Women with a Vision Scholarship for Spring 2021 are available now. The scholarship will be awarded to a woman who is a single mother, residing in Rock County, who is pursuing completion of a degree at Blackhawk Technical College or the University of Wisconsin Whitewater at Rock County that will empower her to attain employment that provides a family-sustaining income. The applicant must have earned at least 12 college credits and must be able to maintain a GPA of at least 2.75. She must be currently enrolled in one of the colleges and be able to complete at least 6 college credits each semester.

The scholarship award may be used for tuition, books, fees and equipment required for course work. The value of the scholarship is $1250 per semester

Applications must be submitted by December 20, 2020. Award will be announced on or before January 1, 2021.

Women with a Vision Scholarship

Applications for the 2020 Zonta Club of Janesville Women with a Vision Scholarship are now available by requesting an application form from the scholarship committee at janesville_scholarship@zontadistrict6.org

This scholarship is awarded to a woman who is a single mother, residing in Rock County, who is pursuing completion of a degree at Blackhawk Technical College or the University of Wisconsin Whitewater at Rock County that will empower her to attain employment that provides a family-sustaining income. The applicant must have earned at least 12 college credits and must be able to maintain a GPA of at least 2.75. She must be currently enrolled in one of the colleges and be able to complete at least 6 college credits each semester.

The scholarship award may be used for tuition, books, fees and equipment required for course work. The value of the scholarship is $2500 for one year, $1250 per semester.

Applications must be submitted by email to janesville_scholarship@zontadistrict6.org by May 1, 2020.

Young Women in Public Affairs Award (YWPA)

Applications for the 2020 Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award are now available from the Zonta Club of Janesville by email: janesville_scholarship@zontadistrict6.org

The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Award Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the empowerment of women.

Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to their school and to their community and the problems limiting the empowerment of women in their own country and worldwide. The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award Program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow.

Applications are due to the Zonta Club of Janesville by email to: janesville_scholarship@zontadistrict6.org by February 15, 2020. Applicants who will be 16-19 years of age on April 1, 2020, studying at a secondary school, college or university in a Zonta district/region, or who are studying elsewhere but are citizens of a Zonta country at the time of application, are eligible to apply. The application process must start with a Zonta club and applicants must contact the Zonta club for deadline information.
