Zonta International
Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, there are now 1,200 Zonta clubs, in 66 countries and geographic areas. Clubs are nonpartisan and nonsectarian.
Our Vision:
- Zonta International envisions a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential.
- In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men.
- In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.
Zonta supports women’s education and leadership through several programs.
- The Amelia Earhart Fellowships support post graduate study by women in aerospace-related sciences and engineering. Since 1938, US $5 million has been raised to support nearly 1,000 fellowships.
- The Young Women in Public Affairs Awards are designed to recognize women’s leadership and encourage careers in public policy, government and volunteer organizations.
- The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships support undergraduate or graduate study in business or business related fields.
Zonta provides service to women in need.
Zonta is committed to women’s development and has supported a variety of international service projects in more than 20 countries in cooperation with United Nations or other like-minded NGOs. The projects are adopted by the International Convention and are funded through the generosity of Zonta clubs and individuals.
Zonta has General Consultative Status with the United Nations and Participative Status with the Council of Europe.
