2021 Frankfort Christmas Parade – Zonta Says NO!

The Zonta Club of Frankfort placed 3rd in the annual Christmas Parade!

Christmas Service Project — Supporting Seniors

Our Christmas Service project was conducted on December 1, 2021at the Paul Phillippe Resource Center where Zontians gathered to enjoy chili, all the fixings, plus dessert, along with each other’s company as they recycled / upcycled an old Christmas tree into Christmas decorations. Over 400 food items donated by members were bagged into 40 bags, plus a decoration, and these were then given to residents at Wesley Manor Southside and visitors to the PPRC. About 125 gifts were also donated for BINGO prizes at both.

“Zonta Says NO! to Violence Against Women”

This year’s Zonta Says NO! / 16 Days campaign was first brought to the public’s attention with an article posted by Kaspar Broadcasting on Clinton County Daily News on November 12.

The kick-off for this year was our Club hosting the 6th annual Area 4 event on Saturday, November 20th. It was held at the Courthouse,  where we were joined by members of the Indianapolis and Lebanon Clubs, along with members of the Clinton Prairie and Lebanon Z Clubs. With over 30 in attendance, including our speakers, it was a great group!

Our speakers for the event were:

Mayor and Zontian, Judy Sheets, welcomed our guests and presented this year’s Proclamation in support of the “Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women” / 16 Days campaign. The walk kicked off the campaign which runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Day) and December 10 (Human Rights Day).

Frankfort Police Chief, Scott Shoemaker, shared information on local domestic violence and the number of calls officers responded to over the past year with subsequent arrests coming to about 60.

Meghann Dubea, Director—Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program (DVIPP) at the YWCA Greater Lafayette, , shared information about programs there which provide support services to domestic violence victims and their families from Clinton County, along with five other counties.

After our speakers and a mini warm-up, the walk  took place on the sidewalks surrounding the inside of the Courthouse square. Those who preferred a shorter walk did so on the inner most sidewalk around the building, resting on our new “Zonta Club of Frankfort” benches. At the walk’s conclusion, 21 Zontians and Z Club girls gathered at Arni’s for lunch and enjoyed an hour or so of fellowship, food, and fun!

Zonta Club Donates Four Benches Made From Recycled Plastic to County Commissioners

The Zonta Club of Frankfort donated four benches, made from recycled plastics, which were placed around the Clinton County Courthouse. Representatives from Zonta “presented” the benches to County Commissioners’ representative Mark Timmons.

“The Zonta Club of Frankfort will be celebrating 65 years of being a part of the community and these benches represent a small portion of giving back to the community that we enjoy,” said Zonta Club President Stephanie Buntin.  “We actively support various non-profit organizations throughout our community as well as offering scholarships to not only high school graduates, but to those women in the community looking to advance their education.  We raise funds for these various initiatives at our annual Chicken Noodle Dinner and Country Store.
