Scholarships

Zonta District 6 is offering information on scholarships and fellowship for our 2011-2012 year. Basic information and applications are listed below as well as links to the Zonta International site with more detailed information.

Zonta District 6 Scholarships

Zonta District 6 is offering three scholarships for the 2011-2012 year. The first two are $500 scholarships to women pursuing an undergraduate degree. The third is a fashion scholarship geared towards women pursing a career in the fashion industry.

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
The local Zonta of LaSalle-Peru Area Club is offering two $500 scholarships to women in the Illinois Valley who are entering college or already enrolled in college (pursuing an undergraduate degree).

Young Women in Public Affairs

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
Established in 1990 by Past International President Leneen Forde, the Young Women in Public Affairs Award honors young women in secondary level or pre-university schools, ages 16 to 19, who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels. Zonta clubs provide a $500 award for club recipients, and district and international awards are funded by the Zonta International Foundation. District recipients receive US$1,000, and five international recipients are selected from the district recipients to receive awards of US$3,000 each.

Amelia Earhart Fellowship

FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION
Established in 1938 in honor of famed pilot and Zontian, Amelia Earhart, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship is awarded annually to women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering. The Fellowship of US$10,000, awarded to 35 Fellows around the globe each year, may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees in these fields.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
Established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York USA, and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian, the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or Master’s degrees in business management.

The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels. Zonta clubs provide a $500 award for club recipients. Zonta International awards scholarships of US$1,000 each at the district level and twelve international scholarships in the amount of US$5,000 each. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships are awarded annually and may be used for tuition, books or living expenses at any university, college or institution offering accredited business courses and degrees.

As part of its missoin to advance the educational status of women, the Zonta Club of LaSalle-Peru Area also encourages women returning to school after a break of at least one year to apply for these scholarships.

FASHION SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
This scholarship is sponsored by Judge Cynthia M. Raccuglia in honor of Mary Louise “Chickie” Hayden, who owned the Tri City Frock Shoppe.  Mrs. Hayden began with a strong desire to provide women of the area with fashionable clothing at an affordable price.  This scholarship will honor her memory by providing money for a person pursuing a career related to the fashion industry.
